This workshop teaches students the ins and outs of ritual from research and planning to preparation and implementation. We will discuss different types of ritual (such as Sabbats, Esbats, baby blessings and Rites of passage), proper group ritual etiquette and a few examples of ritual across Pagan paths and traditions. Whether you are new to Paganism and ritual work or have been writing your own for a while, this is a great workshop to consider!

This workshop is $20 a student. Please bring a laptop if you own one! Each student may use my jump drive to copy the PowerPoint onto their computer for easier viewing. We will also be doing some hands-on practice!

Saturday, September 26, 1:15 pm - 3:15 pm

Trance!

Friday, September 18, 2015 - 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Greetings to all dancers and musicians of a spiritual persuasion!  Each 3rd Friday we will be bringing you an hour long trance workshop followed by a full trance session. Trance music and dancing is a hypnotic therapy that you can use to help mend emotional trauma, work out frustration, engage in energy work or commune with spirits. We aim to make it a space for all to come and get what they need from it.

We need musicians--drummers and vocalists-- to help us bring the dancers in and out safely and we need dancers to provide energy for the musicians. We also need people who can help watch over the entranced. This is the kind of activity you want to bring your loved ones to so they can support you physically as
 well as emotionally.

If you have never tranced before but want to this is a good place to learn. And if you have been trancing on your own for a while this is a good place to find safety and community. Each month we will grow closer as we learn to interpret one another's movements and sounds.

This is an informal session so you can wear whatever colors you like. We encourage you to dress comfortably in something that you won't get easily caught up in. Please bring a home cooked or harvested dish or a bar of fair trade chocolate to share. Food helps us to ground when we are done. And please help us to take care of our Mother Earth and bring only recyclable, washable or compostable serving wear.

If you have any questions or would like to do more to get involved before the event itself go ahead and post here. This is a reoccurring event. We will be back every 3rd Friday. This is event is by donation

Mystic Moon's Samhain Ritual & Potluck will be held on:

October 31st starting at 6:00 PM.

Come dressed in your finest attire for the celebration! Socialize and participate in our Community!

Activities will include:

  • Costume Contest
  • Jack-o-Lantern Contest
  • Ritual & Potluck to Follow
  • & Treats for the Kiddies!

This year, we request that you bring a food item that your ancestors would have enjoyed.
The idea is to indulge in the food as a decedent.  It can be your Grandmother's favorite recipe to any traditional food shared in your family line.

The Jack-o-Lantern contest will judge already carved pumpkins.  Although we'd love to be allotted the time, they will not be carved at Mystic Moon the night of the ritual.

Pot Luck Rule of Thumb:

Astro-signs:

  • Earth - Veggies
  • Air - Bread, Dessert
  • Fire - Meat
  • Water - Beverage

Bring a dish to share!

While the existence of Samhain as a Celtic god has long been contested, there are various myths and localized lore of the Celts that support the existence of a rather obscure god or hero of the dead.   Celtic Historians know very little about his existence but through cultural nuances we can find evidence of its name to mark the final harvest and end of Summer.

Samhain may be regarded as both pastoral and agricultural festival, which in time became known for masquerades, honoring the fallen and channeling energy and focus towards the movement of the ever turning wheel of the seasons.

Mystic Moon Drum Circle Announcement

Letter from Debbie Foley, Proprietor & Community Organizer

I just want to speak a moment about Drum Circle and Mystic Moon Community Events. There seems to be some misunderstanding and/or misconceptions about the "why" of my policies and rules of hospitality at Mystic Moon events, and I want to clear them up.

I will do this in several posts due to the fact that many folks are not taking the time to read them. I realize that things have been different the last two years, I have done my best to keep our events going, and keep things as normal as possible during and after Brian's illness and dying, and grief...we would have nothing..NOTHING here at Mystic Moon if not for my kids, the family of volunteers, and support from all of you..I ask you now for help, understanding, and co-operation.

I'll begin with Drum Circle. In 16 years we have had 832 Drum Circles..I am blessed with a dedicated, devoted staff to make this happen. I want you to know that these wonderful people do not have to be here, yet they come, for 832 nights they have been here out of love and devotion for me, Mystic Moon and the Pagan Community.

Without loyal, committed volunteers, events do not just "happen"..16 years ago Brian and I sat down and set up some "Rules of Hospitality" based on the Brehon Laws of the Celts. These were rules likened to the rules anyone would have in their "Home" or "Space"..we had to of course, improvise some things but, basically the rules are of "Respect" to share what we have been blessed with and to be able to provide for safe, sacred space for all that come to Mystic Moon and our events.

We simply ask for your care of my property, my grounds, my liabilities as far as safety, my store front and merchandise.

We simply ask for kindness and gratitude to the volunteers that come here every week and have done so for 16 years,so that you may have these experiences enhance your spirit,...to drum, dance, to socialize and network with other Pagans in the area.

We simply ask that you supervise and take care of your own children, and help us keep them safe, by following our policies put forth to keep them from any injury or harm. We love and cherish our children and they are always welcome, it is up to YOU as parents to follow these rules and watch your children... A family friendly event does not mean you should take advantage of the situation and expect our staff volunteers to be your babysitter.

We need your help to maintain a beautiful, healthy Pagan Community. There are good valid reasons for every single rule or policy here...
Do your part please, be an example for those that are new here, and if you can't help at least stop making things harder for all of us that do still care, and work so hard, to provide a "home" for you and yours...
more to come...

Thank you,
Debbie Foley

Annual School Supplies Drive

This has been an ongoing gift from Mystic Moon and The Community for over 15 years!!

Please, help if you can. This program benefits the P.A.R.C Family Shelter in Portsmouth and needy children to help them with all the right things for a good school year!

  • We'll be taking donations of school supplies until school starts!
  • Every year, as many of you know and participate, we sponsor a school supply drive for the PARC family shelter and needy children.
  • We have over the years donated hundreds of school supplies to local kids.
  • We have decided to start a little early this year, since the school supplies are already out in the stores we thought this might allot for a little more time to gather these items for the kids!

Here is a list of needful things:
3 Ring binders
Baby wipes
Backpacks/Bookbags
Colored pencils
Colored markers
Composition notebooks
Copy paper
Crayons
Erasers
Folders (with pockets, with prongs, plain)
Glue sticks
Highlighters
Hand sanitizer
Kleenex
Lined paper (college and wide)
Pencil boxes
Pencil cases
Pencils #2
Pens
Red pens
Rulers
Scissors
Spiral Notebooks
Ziplock bags (small or large)

And anything else you can think of a school child might need!  Your generosity over the years has been overwhelming and we as well as the shelter greatly express our gratitude.

Thanks and blessings!
Mystic Moon
